How I fixed my Time Warner wifi problem

How I fixed my Timewarner wifi problem

How I fixed my Time Warner wifi problem

Narrative: WiFi issues. I have been a long time Time Warner cable residential customer. I have had somewhat of a rocky relationship with them but I still stick around. I rely heavily on them for dependable services, especially internet.

My home network has over 20 wifi devices connected to our TWC base modem. Periodically, devices would loose connection with the base. Sometimes devices would not be able to connect for long period of times. The symptoms were sporadic and connection problems were not isolated to device types. I called customer service numerous times and worked with countless technicians that could not resolve my connection/drop/not able to connect wifi issue. I tried everything including buying other routers and range extenders to no avail.

Solution:

This is what I did to resolve my continuous drop connection wifi problem. I am not responsible for your actions therefore you should only attempt this if you accept full responsibility. Ok, its not that bad.

My solution was to manually add my wireless devices; laptops, mobile phones, tablets, tv’s, game systems, you know what I am talking about, to the time warner modem. And oh yes, I have coverage all over the house, strong signal everywhere without using any other routers or range extenders.

My conclusion is that there is an issue related to how devices are automatically connected to the time warner wifi. Please allow me to clarify; whenever a device comes within range of the time warner router it is presented with some negotiation or hand shake challenge. There is a problem with how the router classifies devices and complete the hand shake. I say this because if a device is connected by cable or manually added to the router it never looses connection.
